SOP on Prevention, Investigation and Prosecution of Serious Crimes Committed against United Nations Personnel in Peacekeeping Operations and Special Political Missions (2020)
The purpose of these Standard Operating Procedures (hereinafter, “Procedures”) is to establish key modalities and responsibilities for the prevention, investigation and referral of cases of serious crimes committed against United Nations personnel (hereinafter, “Personnel”) deployed in United Nations peacekeeping operations and special political missions (hereinafter, “Field Mission(s)” of “Missions”)1. These procedures outline key modalities and responsibilities of the United Nations in its support of national and other competent authorities to facilitate the investigation, prosecution and adjudication of related cases by the competent law enforcement, prosecutorial or judicial authorities, including key aspects of detention-related measures.
