Increasing the protection of populations during MSS operations in Haiti is a key priority for the Mission and its partners.
The BINUH Human Rights Section organized a meeting with civil society human rights organizations (CSO) actors on the multinational security support mission for Haiti (MSS) human rights Compliance mechanism, on 28 August.
The objective is to sensitize the civil society human rights actors on the MSS compliance mechanism, the BINUH and UN High Commission for Human Rights’ role in supporting its implementation and expected for CSO actors’ contributions.
11 differents human rights civils society Organisations, representative of the Office de Protection Citoyen (National Institute for human rights) as well as representative form USAID and ISACG for Canada stands for International Security Assistance Coordination Group actively participated in the discussions.
“The Human Rights Compliance Framework is a risk reduction framework aimed at increasing the protection of populations during MSS operations in Haiti,” says Arnaud Royer, Chief of the Human Rights section at BINUH.
Key areas of engagements for the successful implementation of the MSS mission human rights compliance mechanisms have been identified including contributing to the monitoring and reporting on the operations, the complaint mechanisms have been identified.
The CSO have also make strong recommendations on issues of community engagement, SEA and accountability.
